The
PCI
bus was introduced in 1993. This is the first bus designed with 32-bit as
well as 64-bit capabilities. This four to eight-lane bus provides for fast
data transfer and is the obvious choice for Pentium PCs.
The PCI bus supports
plug and play
or PnP. With a PnP bus and BIOS, a PnP PC can automatically configure its expansion
cards without help from you. PCI enjoys a wealth of expansion cards and should
support future technology needs for years to come.
